Woman loses cash to 'miracle worker'

HARARE - A Harare woman lost more than $3 000 to a “miracle worker” who lied that he could multiply her money through traditional means, a Harare court has heard.

Kudzai Kanyama, 25, lost the money to Square Batana, 32, who claimed he had powers to generate “miracle money”.

The court heard Batana met Kanyama at Jacaranda Bus Stop in Harare and lied to her that he could make her rich by multiplying her money.

Hoping to strike gold, Kanyama gave Batana $3 010, who told her the money would miraculously increase to $250 000. According to State papers, Batana disappeared for good soon after receiving the money.

Realising that she had been duped, Kanyama filed a police report leading to Batana’s arrest.

Batana, last week appeared before magistrate Shelly Zvenyika on fraud charges.

He is out on $100 bail and will be back on February 4 for trial. - Ivan Zhakata
