Chigumbura makes BPL flying start

HARARE - Zimbabwean all-rounder Elton Chigumbura made a blistering start to the Bangladesh Premier League on Sunday.

Still smarting from his exclusion in Zimbabwe’s training squad for next month’s West Indies tour, Chigumbura starred with both bat and ball for Sylhet Royals.

Playing against Duronto Rajshashi at Mirpur, a team which include fellow countrymen Charles Coventry and Sean Ervine, Chigumbura took three wickets in four overs before scoring an undefeated 43 runs off 21 balls batting at number eight.

The innings included four boundaries and three maximums.

Royals won with five deliveries to spare.

On the other hand, Chigumbura’s compatriot and Royals teammate Masakadza contributed 16 runs from 10 balls after he came in to bat at number four before he was trapped plum. Ervine scored 15 runs from 12 balls for the opposing side.

Meanwhile, Brendan Taylor’s Chittagong Kings got off to a losing start, falling to Duronto by two runs on Saturday.

Taylor scored nine runs from six balls for his side while Sean Ervine made five runs from nine balls for Duronto Rajshashi.
