Tuskers, Mountaineers post big wins

HARARE - Matabeland Tuskers and Manicaland Mountaineers both completed seven-wicket wins over Mashonaland Eagles and Midwest Rhinos in Coca Cola Pro50 Championship matches yesterday.

Tuskers bowled out Eagles for 157 inside 43.2 overs at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo with former Zimbabwe international Sean Ervine claiming 3-31 in seven overs.

Seamer Glenn Querl and spinner Keith Dabengwa took a brace of wickets each.

Number five Sikandar Raza Butt (46) and opener Stuart Matsikenyeri (42) were in the runs for the Harare franchise.

In reply, Tuskers reached 161-3 in 32.4 overs to seal victory with 104 balls to spare.

Sean Ervine completed a fine all-round performance, top-scoring with 45, while his young brother Craig added 42.

Meanwhile in Mutare, hosts Mountaineers also romped home by seven wickets on the Duckworth Lewis method.

In a match reduced to 43-overs per side due to persistent rains, Rhinos totalled 225 in their allotted overs.

Englishman Jack Mickleburgh top-scored for the Kwekwe outfit with 49 at the top of the order while Zimbabwe internationals Brendan Taylor and Malcolm Waller chipped in with 35 runs each.

In pursuit, Mountaineers totalled 200-3 in 26.2 overs thanks half-centuries by openers Hamilton Masakadza (62) and English professional Mark Pettini (undefeated 85). - Sports Writer
