Dhewa's widow demands $2m from Herald

HARARE - The late Tongai Moyo’s wife Miniehle Mkweli and Kwekwe businessman Bamet Mutosvori are demanding $2 million from two local newspapers which reported that the pair had become an item.

H Metro and the Saturday Herald, owned by the Zimpapers stable recently reported that Miniehle was heavily pregnant as a result of the affair. Mutosvori was one of Moyo’s closest friends.

Miniehle and Mutosvori are demanding one million dollars each, an apology and a retraction.

Their lawyer Tendai Masawi of Masawi and Partners said he had dispatched to Zimpapers a letter of demand.

“There is a story that came out in H-Metro and the Saturday Herald where it is alleged that Mr Mutosvori, my client, impregnated this lady. But you can see for yourselves that she is not heavily pregnant, in fact she is not pregnant but the article says she is.

“You can even go with her to a doctor to conduct tests. And they are not married by customary law or any law so we don’t know where this is emanating from,” Masawi said yesterday.

Masawi said the two articles tarnished the name of his clients.

“Mutosvori is a respected businessman with a family and the stories have caused serious damage to his reputation. It is a pure matter of defamation, the guys did not do their job properly,” he said. - Sharon Muguwu and Vasco Chaya
