Man threatens, 'rapes' daughter

HARARE - A 43-year-old Harare man who allegedly threatened his teen daughter with death before raping her on several occasions will spend Christmas and New Year holidays behind bars.

The man, whose name cannot be mentioned to protect the identity of the minor, allegedly started raping the girl in October last year. According to state papers, the offence only came to light in November this year. He has been remanded in custody until January 8 when he next appears in court.

The court heard that the man arrived home from a beer drink in October last year and found his daughter asleep.

He woke her up and called her into the dining room, before increasing the volume of the radio, it is alleged.

The man switched off the lights and tore the 13-year-old’s night dress before raping her thrice during that night.

He allegedly threatened to kill the girl if she revealed the rape.

The court heard the man continued having sexual intercourse with the minor until November this year.

According to the state, during one of the rape sessions, the man forced himself on the girl four times during the night of November 23 and continued threatening her with death.

The girl allegedly ran away from home and sought refuge at a neighbour’s house, where she narrated the abuse.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the man’s arrest.

Magistrate Anita Tshuma is presiding over the matter. - Tendai Kamhungira
