Diabetic Tuku speaks out

HARARE - Oliver Mtukudzi has dispelled rumours of ill-health that are circulating following his cancellation of concerts he had lined up over the weekend.

Tuku as the superstar is fondly referred to by his legion of fans failed to show up at New Life Nite Club in Budiriro and Richwood Sports Club on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Shephard Mutamba said Tuku is diabetic and from time to time the condition causes severe exhaustion.

“On Saturday he performed in the afternoon but could not do the evening show and Sunday’s gig as he required rest.

“He is fine now and went to the office today (yesterday) to work.

“On Friday he is travelling to Bulwayo for a show, on Saturday he is in Mabvuku and Sunday in Chitungwiza before heading to Kenya.”

Fidelis Ngove of New Life said Sam Mataure, Tuku’s manager called them on Saturday around 7pm saying Mtukudzi had cancelled the show.

“Sam just called but did not give reasons behind the cancellation. The show was supposed to pit Sugar Sugar and Tuku. Instead of making fans to pay for the concert we ended up making it a free show.

“Munya Mataruse then shared the stage with Sugar Sugar and we are sorry for what happened,” said Ngove.

Biggie Chinoperekwei of Richwood Sports club said Mtukudzi informed him before the show that he was unable to perform.

“Mataure visited us just before the show and said due to circumstances beyond their control they were unable to perform. Mataure did not give clear reasons for that.” - Entertainment Writer
