Ammara receives Andy Brown's award

HARARE - Nadine Brown, the widow of late musician Andy Brown failed to attend the Victors Awards ceremony that posthumously honoured her husband.

Brown’s award was received by Ammara, daughter to the late musician. Ammara was accompanied to the stage by Chiwoniso Maraire and her daughter with Brown, Chiedza and Queen Mash — Brown’s sister.

Nadine told the Daily News yesterday that neither the Brown family nor the Victors Awards organisers had informed her about her late husband’s honour.

“I was not aware of this event. I was busy rehearsing for a Book Cafe concert that I stage on Wednesday when the event kicked off. So who received the award on behalf of Brown?” asked Nadine.

The late guitarist’s honour was an emotional occasion for the Brown family. The Brown family, particularly mbira queen Chiwoniso and Ammara, could not hold back their tears.

“I still remember one day when my father said to me: Ammara one day the nation will say I was a genius, a legend but this is not the day,” remembered the fledgling singer. - Vasco Chaya and Kaleen Gombera
