Mechanic steals parts from Senator's car

HARARE - A director for Club Motors has been arraigned before the Harare magistrates’ courts for allegedly stealing car parts from Zanu PF Mt Darwin Senator Alice Chimbudzi’s Parliament-issued vehicle.

Club Motors director and mechanic Ronald Mhlanga, 44, who is charged with theft of trust property, allegedly stole car parts valued at $10 000 from the Senator’s vehicle.

It is the state case that the Senator’s driver Edson Lazarus was dispatched to Mhlanga’s garage by Senator Chimbudzi for the repair of her Nissan Wolf vehicle.

After some time, it is alleged that Lazarus and Chimbudzi went back to check on the vehicle and found that Mhlanga had finished repairing it but wanted to replace bushes which Chimbudzi paid for before leaving.

According to state papers, the Senator got sick and was hospitalised for a long period.

Mhlanga allegedly used the time the Senator was hospitalised to remove some parts from the vehicle.

After she was discharged from hospital, Chimbudzi went to check on her vehicle and found that the vehicle was not fixed and other parts were missing.

She then filed a police report leading to Mhlanga’s arrest.

The missing parts include a starter, alternator, two half shafts, radiator, camshaft, injectors, turbo charger, diff, two wheels among others valued at $10 000. - Irvine Zhakata
