Advantage Dynamos!

HARARE - Through Roy Mwenga and Phenias Bamusi, the Mutare army side Buffaloes fought gallantly in midfield, but still came away with only a single attempt at goal in the entire 90 minutes.

Chazunguza on the other hand never really rose to expected heights but displayed that resilient smash-and-grab temperament that has been their hallmark in a season the Harare giants have dominated in both league and cup.

Simba Sithole’s brace and Denver Mukamba’s late strike ensured DeMbare go into the final round of fixtures needing at least a draw against relegated Hardbody at Ascot Stadium this weekend to successfully defend their Castle Premiership title.

Despite odds heavily stacked in Dynamos’ favour to clinch the title, coach Calisto Pasuwa is not celebrating just yet.

“It is not over until it is over,” he said.

“The title will be decided on the last day of the season and we have to remain focused.”

However, Highlanders can still spoil the Dynamos party if they beat Blue Rangers in another PSL fixture on the same day, while Dynamos lose in Gweru.

This scenario, however, seems far-fetched as a fired up DeMbare appears unstoppable and unplayable.

Yesterday, Dynamos got off to an expected start, dominating play in midfield.

They laid siege to the Buffaloes goal in the opening stages through the strike force of Rodreck Mutuma and Sithole as well as overlapping fullback Ocean Mushure.

On the half hour mark, Sithole was denied by the cross bar as Dynamos continued to make inroads.

It became a matter of time before Calisto Pasuwa’s men could score.

True to form, former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Sithole thrust Dynamos into the lead with an exquisitely taken shot from outside the box.

It was a one touch effort to beat an outstretched Hopeful Bere, in goals for Buffaloes, after Mutuma laid an inviting through ball into the path of the former CAPS United star.

Sithole completed his brace on 36 minutes after benefiting from a Bere blunder.

It was another typical centre-forward goal.

With Bere having being disposed by Mutuma on the edge of the box, Sithole was at hand deep in midfield stroking his effort over Bere and into an empty net, sending the Dynamos fans into delirium.

The second half was a far cry from the first, with both sides failing to fashion any real clear chances.

But out of that unconvincing second half showing, DeMbare still notched up a goal through man-of the-moment Mukamba’s well-executed penalty kick in regulation time.
