Mandaza on the hunt for more goals

JOHANNESBURG - Terrence Mandaza is determined to become a regular goal scorer for Maritzburg United after getting off the mark against Black Leopards last week.

“I dreamt that the day would come and I was very, very happy to have opened my account. It was a big morale booster and now it about looking ahead, getting that second goal as soon as I can,” he said.

A spirit of camaraderie and good team ethics is in existence at the Team of Choice, says the Zimbabwean.

As the season progresses the players are also becoming increasingly familiar with each other on the pitch and Mandaza hopes this will result in more visits to the back of the net.

“I get on well with my team-mates and everyone is having a good understanding of each other’s play on the field of play. The guys are all supporting me and I’m feeling good that more goals will come.”

A striker has possibly the toughest job on the field, its goals that win matches, and a marksman needs a cool head to handle the expectations.

Mandaza says however, that at Maritzburg things are made a little bit easier due to the all-round quality of the team.

“In our team, even the defence and midfield can score. Delron has scored goals, so has Mario, so knowing that, there is not unnecessary pressure on the strikers to score goals. It remains our responsibility, but we do not feel burdened by it.” —
