Japanese tourist robbed

HARARE - Two men who allegedly robbed a Japanese tourist were arraigned before the Harare magistrates’ court.

Grand Chikuse, 20, and Billy Mukova, 18, allegedly robbed Soichi Wataube, a Japanese national who had come to Zimbabwe as a tourist.

Prosecutor Junior Mugebe told the court that in October this year, Chikuse and Mukova together with eight others who are still at large approached Wataube along Mukuvisi River and started to assault him.

The gang took $300, a laptop, and a digital camera among other goods valued at $2 500 from the tourist before fleeing, the court was told.

While running away Wataube allegedly gave chase to the gang and managed to apprehend Chikuse who then hit him with an empty bottle in order to free himself from Wataube.

Wataube later filed a police report leading to the arrest of Chikuse who led to the arrest of Mukova.

Magistrate Anita Tshuma remanded the two in custody to November 19. - Ivan Zhakata
