Mbada slams PSL

HARARE - Mbada Diamonds Company, the country’s biggest football sponsor, has issued a thinly-veiled ultimatum to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to “get its house in order” or risk losing the lucrative deal following the shambolic handling of the Mbada Diamonds Cup semi-final fixtures.

In an embarrassing draw blooper by the league, the semi-final pairing for the two semis have been altered three times, with the current position being a Dynamos versus CAPS United showdown in Bulawayo while FC Platinum will take on Monomotapa in Mutare.

Both matches are set for this coming weekend, but indications are that this may not be the last we have heard of this unfolding drama.

In a letter to PSL this week, Mbada chief executive Patience Khumalo slammed the PSL management for drawing negative publicity to the competition, which is worthy over a million dollars.

“We want to put it on record that as Mbada Diamonds (sponsor) it’s not our mandate to choose who plays who or where. Fixtures are a duty of the PSL and Mbada as the sponsor, pours in money to develop the sport. On behalf of Mbada, I would like register our disgruntlement over the way you have handed our Cup this year.

“The differences between the PSL (board) and the executive are now destroying the image of our brand. Just spare a thought for the sponsor, the clubs being confused and the millions of supports who are being short-changed. Get your house in order. And please comminute the correct final position.”
