Bumper cast for Summer Series

HARARE - A bumper cast of top class motocross riders from across the continent and beyond is expected to grace the 2012 Zimbabwe Summer Series at Donnybrook next month.

Close to 160 riders drawn from as far as the United States will battle for honours in Zimbabwe’s premier motorcycling event, spread over four days on selected days between 8-16 December.

Fans will be treated to two spectator friendly Supercross (night racing) events as well as two motocross events.

Summer Series chairman Gary Granger said preparations were at an advanced stage.

“We have riders coming from South Africa, America, riders from Zambia and Botswana. There is indication we have riders who will be coming from the UK.

There is also interest from Mozambique, Uganda and Angola; it’s an overwhelming response.”

Zimbabwean riders are unlikely to be cowed by the well-travelled riders making the entry list for the series.

It will be interesting to see how Zimbabwe riders fare against some of the most acclaimed riders in the sport.

Meanwhile, the national motocross championships came to a conclusion at Donnybrook at the weekend.

Big Chitima Jnr finished the six series competition in first place in the Pewees class whilst Tristan Granger added a fifth championship accolade in an already bountiful trophy cabinet by scooping the 50cc.

Granger is currently the 2012 50A Motocross South Africa (MSA) champion, Fim 50cc Africa champion, Fim 50cc Southern African Champion and Zimbabwe 50cc Club champion.
