PSL thwart BancABC deal

HARARE - The Premier Soccer League have thwarted BancABC’s planned sponsorship for Sunday’s Castle Premiership match between Dynamos and Highlanders because it violates the Premiership’s sponsorship agreement with Delta Beverages.

BancABC, the sponsors of Dynamos and Highlanders, on Thursday tabled a $15 000 winner-take-all prize for the  potential title decider at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

The regional banking group had also offered  $5 000 to any team that will score within the opening five minutes; $1 500 for the man-of-the-match and $3 000 for each goal that will be scored.

The sponsors of the BancABC Sup8r Cup which will not be competed for this year, had also promised to bankroll a match between Bosso and DeMbare legends, entertainment to be provided by four musical groups and various prizes for the fans.

But in a statement signed by PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele, the league shot down BancABC’s sponsorship for the high-profile match.

“The incentives and packages offered to Dynamos FC and Highlanders FC by the Clubs Sponsor are not permissible under the current sponsorship greement entered into by and between Delta Beverages and the Premier Soccer League”, read part of the statement.

“If the clubs fail to comply with the instruction, the League will have no alternative but to cancel the match. Further the League will withhold the full Castle Lager Premier Soccer League prize money of the defaulting club(s). Such prize money shall be forfeited to the League.”
