Robber on the run

HARARE - Police are hunting for Chenjerai Mamombe who is on the run after being implicated in an robbery that has landed two other men in court.

Using a pair of scissors and two bricks, the trio allegedly robbed Harare resident Sharon Mason of household property worth more than $11 000.

Shame Mazambe, 28 and Jimmy Mirikopo, 33, have already appeared before Harare magistrate Anita Tshuma on robbery charges.

Tungamirai Chakurira is prosecuting.

He told the court that the trio scaled the wall into Mason’s yard in the leafy Pomona suburb, armed with a pair of scissors, a screw driver and two bricks and hid inside the yard.

When she opened the kitchen door, the trio pounced and pushed her back into the house where they demanded cash and jewellery from Mason and her son, the court heard.

After tying the two with electric cables, the trio allegedly ransacked the house and took property worth over $11 000 before fleeing.

The property includes three cellphones, an iPhone, Nokia E71, a Samsung galaxy and a Sony digital camera.

Mason filed a police report the following day, leading to the arrest of Mazambe and Mirikopo.

Mazambe and Mirikopo will be back in court for trial this Friday.
