Zim needs new breed of political leaders

HARARE - I don’t know about you, but I am fed up with the whole lot of them...from Robert Mugabe, Morgan Tsvangirai to Welshman Ncube.

Why can’t they just go away?

In all political parties, we have the same old tired men and women who have failed us for decades but who somehow are recycled over and over again.

I see no progressive leader; they should all just stand aside and let the young blood in their political parties take over.

How can a group of men be so reckless with the political fortunes of the nation?

Last week, The MDC even had the gall to stage their 13th anniversary celebrations.

The emphasis should not be on how old the MDC is. Rather it should be on what the MDC has achieved since its birth and identifying the battles that lie ahead.

Tsvangirai and his MDC have replaced priorities with issues that please Zanu PF.

It no longer stands for those issues that brought it the prominence and popularity at its formation.

They had good rapport with the people then and they espoused issues that were in the hearts of the people.

At that time, the MDC articulated the feeling of despair as reflected in people’s thoughts and daily lives.

But somewhere along the line, the MDC started aping Zanu PF.

Aims and targets have changed and at a time when MDC supporters are being assaulted while other opposition members are being killed for simply attending a political rally, Tsvangirai, in between court bouts with some units of his harem, finds the time to celebrate party birthdays and spend time introducing his wife at a political rally, instead of telling people his vision and what he intends to do about a plethora of problems afflicting the nation.

First things first; we want to know what he, as Prime Minister, intends to do about the increasing violence against the people.

They have now been in government for four years; they should have the answers.

There are so many issues that, because of the MDC’s lethargic approach, now seem “normal” yet they are issues that demanded close and immediate attention as far back as when the MDC was formed.

While MDC hosts celebratory rallies to show off its latest acquisition, people are being murdered for supporting other political parties. That is normal as far as the MDC is concerned.

More farms are being grabbed at a time when the nation cannot even feed itself. That is normal as far as the MDC is concerned.

So many things have become normal to this MDC. Why can’t this party stand its ground like Zanu PF does.
The MDC has tacitly approved of the culture of impunity as normal otherwise they would be making a lot of noise about it.

They could be yelling about the intolerance that keeps spreading with warmongers in Cabinet allegedly forming more vigilante groups in towns around the country. To the MDC, this is normal otherwise they would be screaming about it.

There are so many issues that the MDC could be using against Zanu PF, actually blackmailing Mugabe’s party by simply saying “until this or that is straightened out, there is not going to be any other business”.

MDC is not making noise about the incompetence, corruption, violence, property theft and even human rights abuses of which the majority of victims are MDC supporters.

Tsvangirai is casually telling people that his party will not be participating in any election unless certain conditions have been met but what is he doing about ensuring that those conditions are met?

Everything around them is not what should be. Apart from issuing press releases and statements, what is the MDC doing about the judiciary, which almost always victimises MDC supporters?

About the corrupt police force that steals money and property from people injured or killed at accident scenes?

Do they have any plans for job creation or they are content to give more and more space to the Chinese who have become worse exploiters than the colonial masters we once had?

What really is the MDC doing about not only the human rights abuses at Chiadzwa but about the revenue from those diamonds, which, we are told, is not reaching government coffers?

How long have we all known about the disgusting state of the voters’ roll and what, in real terms, has the MDC been doing to correct the anomaly?

The MDC has conveniently mortgaged all its priorities. Last weekend, Tsvangirai went to Bulawayo to celebrate his party’s 13th anniversary, why? What’s there to celebrate?

To make matters worse, Tsvangirai promised the people free and fair elections. Really? Who is he kidding? Chipangano and Al Shabab? - Tanonoka Joseph Whande

Quite right, the MDC needs to get more aggressive because at the moment, although they won the last elections, they are being treated like the zpf tea boys. If Morgan puts his foot down, mugabe hasn't the support anymore and will back down. So Morgan, show us that you have the balls to demand what we want and stop this dictator doing what he wants. Start with the diamond money then we might get somewhere.
