Free P Square, local artists CDs at Lion Lager Summer Festival

HARARE - Delta Beverages will this year give away 10 000 music CDs for free to enable the public to remember this once-in-a-lifetime concert while promoting the participating local artistes.

This year’s Lion Lager Summer Festival is set for Harare on   October 13 and the give-away CD will feature a song by P Square and all the 11 Zimbabwean artistes set to perform at the much-hyped gig.

As part of measures designed to ensure those outside the capital city also get the opportunity to be part of the experience, the CDs will also be given for free in major cities outside of Harare.

Delta Beverages marketing manager, Patricia Murambinda announced the exciting news yesterday while noting that the appropriate copyright approval had been obtained from each artiste.

Murambinda said: “Firstly, I would like to emphasise that these CDs will be absolutely free and will be given to members of the public at random.

“This will be part of the build-up to the Lion Lager Summer Festival headlined by P Square and as part of our efforts to assist our local artistes in their general marketing efforts.

“We have compiled a CD featuring each of those artistes performing at the Lion Lager Summer Festival” said Murambinda.

“These CDs will afford the artistes a direct rapport with the public who buy their music.

“It will be another opportunity for each of the 11 local acts to present a sample of their music to the market which buys it all-year round.”

Local artistes participating at the Delta Beverages-sponsored musical showcase include Chiwoniso Maraire, Ba Shupi, Alexio Kawara, Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, Nox, Roki, Mic Inity, Ammara Brown and Winky D.
The CD will also include original tracks from DJ Banks and DJ Rax, who will be playing throughout the festival.

“I’m so glad to be one of the artistes who were picked to join in with all these artistes” said Ba Shupi, real name Peace Ndlovu. “I am so honoured to be part of this festival.”

Mic Inity declared: “It is one platform that gives us local artistes the opportunity to market ourselves; to be known and to be seen.”

The innovative CD give-aways will come as a welcome boon for local punters as the level of anticipation for the P Square seems to have reached fever pitch.

“The Lion Lager Summer Festival encourages true fans not to steal the posters as they will receive something better in the form of free CDs that will be given courtesy of Lion Lager,” said Tafadzwa Simba of Harare International Festival of Arts (Hifa).

Hifa is the event management organisation for this year’s edition of the Lion Lager Summer Festival.
Simba said everyone with an interest in the lineup of local artistes will benefit from the CD.

The fourth edition of the Lion Lager Summer Festival will be held on October 13 at Glamis Arena, Harare Exhibition Park.

Simba said: “Tickets will go on sale at the Rainbow Towers Hotel from October 5 onwards.”
