SuperSport hope to sign Benji

HARARE - Supersport United are still working around the clock to sign former Portsmouth and Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari to solve their goal scoring problems.

United have only managed to score four goals in the League after six games and are eighth on the log with just eight points.

Matsatsantsa have gone two League games in a row without scoring.

United coach Gavin Hunt said they hoped to clinch a deal with the Zimbabwean striker by last night.

“We are going to try to sign him today, we have to try something. I think he is a general all-round player that can help us do a little better up front.”

Hunt says his team is creating decent scoring chances but blames poor shooting for their lack of goals — using Saturday’s game against Free State Stars as an example.

“I thought we had great opportunities to score, I don’t know if the goal was offside or not in the first half from the set-piece.

“But I mean we had great opportunities, especially in the second half, so there is not much you can do but just to keep on going at it.

“We are creating decent chances but we are not finishing them off, there is not much more you can say. We won one and have drawn two in the last three games. I’m worried that we are not winning here at Lucas Moripe Stadium but when we go to Polokwane, we win, here we don’t win,” he adds. —
