Ex-wife recklessly spends maintence money

HARARE - A Harare man accused his ex-wife yesterday for recklessly spending maintenance money for the upkeep of her current husband’s children.

Tafadzwa Tapfumaneyi told the court he was surprised that Tsitsi Mukunyana wanted more money when half the time she was at his residence asking for food to eat.

“She is not taking care of the children with the money I give her every month. She is busy fending for her husband’s children. Right now I am in the process of seeking custody for my children from the courts,” he said.

In her response, Makunyana told the court her ex-husband pays maintenance in drips and drabs and that the money does not count for anything at the end of the month.

She also denied the fact that she neglects her children.

“What kind of mother would I be if I neglected my own children for the love of a man? He should be honest before the court and tell how he pays the maintenance. He can choose to deposit five dollars or $10 at a time. How can anyone manage?” asked the angry mother of two.

In May this year Makunyana and Tapfumaneyi appeared before the court where Tapfumaneyi was ordered to pay a maintenance fee of $120 and school fees.

The magistrate advised Mukanyana to get Tapfumaneyi arrested if he continued to pay maintenance in such a manner.
