Diarrhoea outbreak at Catholic school

HARARE - A diarrhoea outbreak has forced St Dominics Chishawasha Mission to send half its schoolchildren from the boarding place to their homes.

The health complications started on Monday with students complaining of stomach pains and some reporting severe diarrhoea.

Some students also complained of vomiting. The problem escalated and parents received sms messages yesterday from the school nurse requesting them to collect their children.

Parents collected their children yesterday morning and some of the children were being treated for diarrhoea.

The Daily News yesterday contacted a nurse at the school who said: “I do not have the number of affected children off hand but only those who were affected have been asked to go home. Health officials from Makumbe are here collecting samples to determine what could have caused the challenges. Samples are being taken to the lab.”

The nurse refused to be identified by name because she is not authorised to speak on behalf of the school.
