Warriors squad set to be named

HARARE - Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo is expected to name his squad for the second leg of the 2013 African Nations Cup qualifier against Angola early next week.

The Warriors carry a 3-1 lead from the first leg played two weeks ago at Rufaro Stadium and travel for the return leg in Luanda on October 14.

Benedict Moyo, the Zifa board member in charge of national teams, said the association will guard against the shambolic preparations that characterised the first leg.

“The squad for the Angola game will be definitely announced next week on Tuesday,” Moyo told the Daily News yesterday.

“I have talked to the coach and he said he will have it ready by Friday but I advised him not to hurry and take his time. I’m sure by Monday he will have the squad list delivered at Zifa and by Tuesday it will be availed to the media. We want to avoid what happened last time when the letters to clubs failed to arrive on time.”

Moyo revealed that the Zifa High Performance Technical Committee will also meet the Warriors coaches next week to reveal the team’s first leg performance.

“Basically as the High Performance Technical Committee we made our observations from the first leg and we will be meeting with the coaches to discuss this,” he said.

“This is a post-mortem of how the team played and we will be discussing what we must do to beat Angola to make sure we qualify for South Africa. We will tell them what we observed but it is up to the coaches to follow on our advice or not.”
