Thieves use kids to steal

HARARE - Two Harare men who used juveniles to enter into a shop through a toilet window and steal, were yesterday hauled before the magistrate’s court facing theft in aggravating circumstances charges.

Magistrate Anita Tshuma remanded intwo custody Prosper Batisai, 26, and Remember Manyere, 31, to October 2.

The court heard that on September 8 this year, Batisai and Manyere approached the juveniles aged 12, 14 and nine and asked them to enter into a shop through the toilet window in order to steal.

According to state papers, the three juveniles complied and entered the shop whereupon they took the groceries and DVD players worth $1 132 which they handed over to the two.

The following day the owner of the shop found there had been a break-in and made a police report.

One of the juveniles was later arrested and confessed to having entered the shop on Batisai and Manyere’s instructions.

He later led police officers to the duo’s residence leading to their arrest.

Goods worth only $60 were recovered.
