Man languishes in remand prison for raping minor

HARARE - Thirty-six-year-old Sydney Chingoma is languishing at the Harare remand prison for raping a 12-year-old minor.

Chingoma, who was not asked to plead, was remanded in custody to October 23 by Harare magistrate Fadzai Mtombeni.

The state alleges Chingoma saw the young girl who was on her way to the barber shop in Harare’s Highfield suburb.

Chingoma allegedly asked the juvenile who lives in his neighbourhood to meet him at the backyard of Highfield 2 High School and the girl complied.

According to state papers, Chingoma followed the girl and then ordered her to remove her clothes but the juvenile refused.

Prosecutor Valerie Ngoma told the court that Chingoma forcibly removed the girl’s clothes and raped her twice.

After raping her, Chingoma allegedly told the girl to go home where she told her mother what had transpired.

The juvenile and her mother made a police report leading to Chingoma’s arrest.
