Controversy reigns once more in Central Region

BEITBRIDGE - Beitbridge-based Tripple B opened an 11-point lead at the top of the Central Region Division One League after beating Hwahwa 1-0 at Hwahwa Stadium on Sunday.

Tripple B’s cause was aided by the loss of their nearest rivals FC Strikers, who choked in the second half to lose 3-1 to Chapungu at Ascot Stadium a day earlier.

FC Strikers’ dream of coming out of Ascot Stadium with at least a point was shattered when defender Brighton Tuwaya and midfielder Maxwell Mavhuto were red-carded midway in the second half.

Strikers president Ephat Shoko was livid after the match, saying there was a grand plan by some elements within the Central Region executive to aid Tripple B’s promotion at the expense of others teams.

Shoko claims that Central Region leadership inexcusably moved Tripple’s B fixture against Hwahwa to Sunday from Saturday and allowed Tripple B to watch the match between Strikers and Chapungu at Ascot, which handed them an unfair advantage.

“We accept defeat but its so sad that our administrators are found wanting in the way they are executing their duties. How can they say that they pushed the match between Tripple B and Hwahwa to Sunday because there was a Mbada Diamonds Cup match at Dulibadzimu, it doesn’t make sense! How can the hosting of Mbada match in Beitbridge affect playing a match at Hwahwa in Gweru? It’s clear that they wanted Tripple B to know our result against Chapungu. The world over, the norm is teams that are fighting for the title play on the same day,” said Shoko.

Chrome Stars moved into fifth place after forcing a goalless draw away to Town United in Beitbridge while Midlands State University continued with their purple patch, beating NewZimsteel 2-0 at Ascot Stadium on Sunday.

Vumbachikwe returned to winning ways, beating struggling Jessie Mine 1-0.  Silo United moved into sixth position on the log with a win over Blanket Mine in Kwekwe.

Former Premiership club Tongogara continue to sing the blues after they lost 2-0 to FC Platinum Under-19s at Mandava Stadium.
