Move to stop Chipangano commendable

By Staff Writer

CHIPANGANO, the deadly Zanu PF militia has finally met its match with both police and the military moving in to stop this menacing gang of thugs who are robbing people of their hard-earned money.

We support all efforts to bury lawlessness in the country and we support all progressive forces who have decided to stop the menacing Chipangano which has caused untold suffering to the people of Zimbabwe.

Police had for some strange reason allowed the Chipangano group to beat up people, rob them of their cash and disrupt public transport system.

The militia group has become the law unto themselves and has terrorised people especially in Harare.

Police only sprung into action when members of the military were assaulted by this gang of thugs because some soldiers were now retaliating.

It was now frightening that soldiers could be beaten up by these thugs. If uniformed forces can be easily humiliated, it was scary for civilians, most of whom have been victims of the Zanu PF sponsored militia group.

Police had lost it that it took some soldiers’ exasperation when they beat up some members of Chipangano for cops to act.

Yesterday, members of the police could be seen at all bus termini trying to restore order and this is what they should have done years ago when the group was formed by Zanu PF.

While we certainly do not support the idea of soldiers beating up criminals like those from Chipangano, like civilians, they could not take it any longer and the positive development to emerge from this is that at least police were forced to act.

We have stated it before that Chipangano is linked to some desperate and power-hungry Zanu PF politicians whose names are well-known and it is now time to expose them and as the Daily News, we will do it without fear or favour.

Let it be a lesson to the power behind Chipangano that the long arm of the law will catch up with all thugs and with the police now involved, we hope sanity will prevail.

Zanu PF must come clean on this terror group so that it is disbanded as soon as possible.

But authorities must start by rooting out the people behind this group, who move around claiming to be businessmen yet they will be enjoying blood money.

We hope that police are serious in effectively dealing with this terror group because as we go for elections, there is need to avoid violence at all costs to ensure a free and fair election.
