State fails to produce nine of 10 documents

HARARE - Lawyers representing Core Mining director Lovemore Kurotwi and former Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation boss Dominic Mubaiwa are digging in after the state yesterday brought only a single document of the 10 they were demanding.

On Monday, High Court Judge Chinembiri Bhunu instructed the state to produce documents required by the defence in the epic fraud trial.

But state prosecutors only brought a “bundle of papers which is the basis of the company’s financial report,” said the defence lawyer.

“We were just given one item of the 10 we had asked for. Chris Mutangadura (state lawyer) does not have the other things because there are irrelevant to the case,” said Mtetwa.

The defence is demanding that the state avails all the nine remaining documents in order to move with the trial stalled by failure to produce the documents.

High Court judge Chinembiri Bhunu reserved judgment on the availing of all the documents to the 19th of this month.
