More woes for Chunga

HARARE - Coach Moses Chunga succumbed to his eighth straight defeat with two different clubs this season after Buffaloes continued their prolific away form to condemn his Gunners further into the relegation zone yesterday.

Michael Mageja headed home the priceless goal that saw the Mutare soldiers climb into fifth place with 36 points from 21 games.

It equally compounded Chunga’s misery, two games into his fourth spell as Gunners coach following his sacking by Black Mambas.

Gunners still occupy the last relegation spot with 18 points from 21 games.

But with CAPS United beating Hardbody and Black Mambas earning a point against Motor Action yesterday, their position has become increasingly shaky.

The well-travelled coach refused to grant this reporter an interview after the match.

Former Hardbody player Mageja headed home from close range in the first half to give Buffaloes their 10th win of the season after being set up by Prosper Matizanadzo.

Gunners returned from the breather determined to overturn the result and help their relegation cause, but the final ball proved elusive for the former Zimbabwe champions.

Buffaloes could have stretched their lead in the 58th minute, but were twice denied by the woodwork in quick succession.

First it was Roy Mwenga who watched his header ricochet of the cross bar before Muchineripi Wayerera pounced on the rebound but his effort crushed against the post.
