Con woman poses as UN agent

HARARE - A Harare woman who allegedly swindled another woman of  $11 000 after misrepresenting to her that she is an agent of the United Nations Development Fund (UNDF) was issued with a warrant of arrest for failing to attend court.

Odene Zimbizi, 36, who is facing fraud charges failed to appear before magistrate Anita Tshuma who then issued a warrant of arrest.

The court heard sometime in September last year, Zimbizi allegedly misrepresented to a woman identified in state papers as Gabaza that she was an agent of UNDF, an organisation that gives loans to women and
assists them in obtaining business stands from Nyikavanhu Housing Cooperative.

Zimbizi allegedly lied to Gabaza that she had to pay a deposit first before she gets the loan and Gabaza paid $11 000 to Zimbizi.

According to state papers, on May 18 this year, Gabaza went to UNDF and Nyikavanhu Housing Cooperative to check on progress of the contribution.

Gabaza was told there was nothing like that and the companies did not know Zimbizi.

She then discovered she had been duped and made a police report leading to the arrest of Zimbizi.

Gabaza suffered an actual prejudice of $11 000 and nothing was recovered.
