Musona doubtful

HARARE - Knowledge Musona’s availability for Zimbabwe’s crucial 2013 African Nations Cup qualifier against Angola on Sunday is now in doubt after the Warriors kingpin failed to arrive in the country as expected yesterday.

Musona, who plays for Bundesliga side FC Augsburg, was supposed to land in Harare yesterday afternoon to join up with the rest of his teammates.

The Daily News however, understands the Germany-based forward did not board his flight from Germany on Tuesday night.

According to a Zifa source, the 22-year-old did not claim an e-ticket sent to him through a travel agent.

It was not clear whether Musona will finally turn up in time for Sunday’s game, owing to the flight schedules between Europe and Zimbabwe.

Musona’s availability for the match has always been a bone of contention since July when he sensationally quit the Warriors in protest over match-fixing allegations levelled against him after the Warriors’ World Cup qualifiers against Guinea and Mozambique in June.

Musona was not deterred by the allegations and went on to score the only goal of the match in Zimbabwe’s crucial Afcon win over Burundi in June.

A few weeks after the match, the Warriors talisman announced through his lawyers that he had quit the national team until Zifa launched an “investigation” against him or issue a public apology.

Zifa refused to give in to Musona’s demands, forcing the former Aces Youth Academy and Kaizer Chiefs striker to unconditionally avail himself.

Meanwhile, the Europe-based duo of Archieford Gutu and Noel Kaseke arrived last night while new Orlando Pirates striker Takesure Chinyama and Amazulu defender Carlington Nyadombo  joined camp from their South African bases.
