Hungwe cuts down on competitions

HARARE - Zimbabwe's top bodybuilder, Victor Hungwe, has cut down on the number of contests for the remainder of the year, opting to participate only in two regional events.

Hungwe won the Mr Musclemania Zimbabwe last month, making it two titles in the year following his victory in the Shameem Classic in Cape Town in March.

However, with the Musclemania Africa set for Uganda at the end of the month and the Africa Olympia to be hosted by Zimbabwe for the first time in November, Hungwe has decided to concentrate on these two events.

“I have started my training and dieting but have realised that it’s not rewarding to participate in three or four shows in a space of four months,” Hungwe told the Daily News yesterday.

“It’s always a big factor for professional bodybuilders to be consistent, that is why I entered the Musclemania Zimbabwe contest in August having last competed in March in South Africa.”

The Zimbabwean champion is hopeful that he would continue with his success story in Uganda.

“Being a regional show (Uganda) obviously means that you will be competing with the best in Africa and that’s a feat that every professional bodybuilder longs to accomplish,” he said.
