Cop 'rapist' tracked

HARARE - Mobile tracking system led to the arrest of a Harare man who allegedly took turns with his friend, who is still at large, to rape a police woman.

Joe Sikhonyana Mpofu, 29, appeared before Harare magistrate Anita Tshuma facing robbery and rape charges.

The court heard that on July 31 this year at around 1800 hours Mpofu and his accomplice Clive Zindoga, who is still at large, approached the officer at corner Seke Road and Dieppe Road in Graniteside, Harare where she was waiting for transport to go to Epworth where she stays.

The duo, it is alleged, confronted the woman and took her cellphone, Nokia 1110i and $1 before dragging her into a nearby bush and assaulted her.

Prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira told the court that Mpofu and Zindoga threatened to stab the officer with a knife if she refused to have sex with them.

According to state papers, the duo forcibly removed the officer’s uniform and took turns to rape her until she fainted.

When the officer woke up the duo had already gone and she reported the matter at Braeside Police Station. — Ivan Zhakata
