Your questions answered by Prosper Chigumba

HARARE - After the mass exodus of key players at Gunners, goalkeeper Prosper Chigumba has suddenly become one of the most senior players in the Chando Kupisa dressing room.

The 24-year-old Chegutu-born goalie, who joined Gunners in 2007 as an understudy to Moses Nelson, together with Pardon Chinungwa are the senior figures in the Gunners squad as they fight to survive relegation.

Chigumba agreed to answer the Daily News on Sunday readers’ questions as they prepare to face Dynamos this afternoon at Rufaro Stadium.

Do you think you will win against Dynamos this afternoon? (Stanley Godo, Harare)

We have to win the game. It is a must-win for us given the position we are in on the log standings. We will fight hard to get something out of the game otherwise relegation will become a serious reality.

Who was your hero as a youngster? (Henry Koto, Harare)

My big brother George Nzota who played for CAPS United and Underhill as a defender was a real major inspiration for me. He is now playing for Chegutu Pirates in my hometown.

Zimbabwe captain Tapiwa Kapini is my other hero. He always motivates me whenever we meet.

When did your interest in football begin in earnest? (Henry Koto, Harare)

I started off as a striker in my earlier years at primary school but when I got into Grade 7 I became a goalie and have not looked back ever since.

Who is the best goalkeeper in the Premiership and who is your best Zimbabwe goalie of all-time? (Ben Garai, Harare)

FC Platinum’s Tafadzwa Dube is the best in the Premiership goalie currently in my own opinion.

The best ever goalkeeper for me was Muzondiwa Mugadza who used to turn out for Amazulu.

Is it strange that after the massive exodus of players from Gunners you find yourself as one of the most senior players left at the club? (Bornwell Hondo, Harare)

Gunners have lost a number of key players in large numbers over the last couple of seasons and this has left me in a position where I have to play elder brother to the new young players.

I am happy to be one of the senior players left in the team. I have been around for some time now and as such I deserve to be an elder of sorts in the dressing room.

Which is your favourite other club in the Premiership? (Bornwell Hondo, Harare)

I like CAPS United very much. Hopefully someday I will join them and become a legend there.

Who do you tip to be this year’s Soccer Star of the Year? (Burnley Kondo, Harare)

Masimba Mambare of Highlanders deserves to be the Soccer Star of the Year. He has had a brilliant debut season at Highlanders since joining the Bulawayo team from Motor Action at the beginning of this season.

List 11 players who deserve to be among this season’s best? (Godfrey Ferenando, Harare)

The Soccer Star of the Year should be Masimba Mambare (Highlanders).

The 10 other players who I think have had an outstanding season are: Ariel Sibanda (Highlanders), Ali Sadiki (FC Platinum), Denver Mukamba (Dynamos), Innocent Mapuranga (Highlanders), Peter Moyo

(Highlanders), Pardon Chinungwa (Gunners), Nelson Mazivisa (Shabanie), Partson Jaure (Dynamos), Qadr Amini (FC Platinum), Hardlife Zvirekwi (CAPS United) and Cliff Sekete (Dynamos).
