CAPS hope for fresh start
Monday, 13 May 2013 12:04
HARARE - Caps United will aim to bounce back from two successive defeats as they make a fresh start to their Castle Premiership campaign against newly promoted Triangle on Sunday.

Since their 4-1 win over Black Mambas during week six, CAPS United went on a losing streak, going down 1-0 to Chicken Inn before suffering a 3-2 defeat to a determined Shabanie last weekend.

Triangle coach Gishon Ntini, who will be plotting his former club’s demise, has already stalked the flames ahead of Sunday’s tie, insisting that losing to Makepekepe is not an option.

In their previous two matches, Triangle drew 2-2 with Monomotapa to ensure a share of the spoils and last weekend they put up a committed display that charmed many neutrals to dispatch Hwange 1-0 at the Colliery.

The Green Machine’s coach Taurai Mangwiro is under no illusion about the tough task that awaits his charges against Triangle.

“It will be a tricky tie for us considering we are coming from two straight defeats,” Mangwiro told Daily News yesterday.

“But obviously we are going there with the mentality to win. You would want to win every match especially after a bad run to lift your spirits back.

“We are urging our fans to keep on rallying behind the guys, but at the same time, they should be patient because we are re-building the team. Our priority this year is to restore stability at the club and I think we have started well.

“So fans should not be too ambitious, putting ourselves under too much pressure. We would want to win week in week out but football is a game of three results. Our preparations for the match have been going on well and we are glad some of the players who have been injured are back.

“We are very good friends with the Triangle coach, but on Sunday we will put it aside just for the 90 minutes. We are happy that morale is high in the camp and everyone is looking forward to the game.”

CAPS United has been boosted by the return of influential midfielder Hardlife Zvirekwi and forward Rahman Kutsanzira, who missed last week’s game against Shabanie Mine through injury.

Enterprising left-back Ronald Pfumbidzai will also return to the fold after serving his suspension for accumulating three yellow cards.

Long-term casualty Tawanda Munyanduri, who has been on the sidelines since last year through injury, has also started training and could be included in the squad set to leave Harare for the Lowveld tomorrow.

Elsewhere in other matches lined up this weekend, Chicken Inn will welcome Motor Action at Luveve tomorrow while Black Mambas host Black Rhinos at Morris Depot.

In the capital at Rufaro the same day, Dynamos side will be taking on Hwange desperate to maintain their winning streak after last weekend’s 3-0 thumping of Monomotapa at the same venue.

In-form Highlanders make the short trip to Zvishavane to face fellow leaders FC Platinum in a top-of-the-table clash. (See story on page 31).
