HARARE - Zimbabwe’s Micky Hough had a nightmare final round at the BMG Classic in South Africa yesterday where he carded a 10-over 82 at Glendower Golf Club.

Hough’s final gross total was nine-over 225 and finished tied at number 43 with Jared Harvey of South Africa.

The other Zimbabwe representative at the tournament, Ryan cairns failed to make the cut in the morning as he finished two-over 142 after 36 holes.

With Cairns out, all hopes of a Zimbabwean winner were now on the shoulders of the 29-year-old Hough, who had qualified for the tournament via a pre-qualifying tournament.

It was not to be as Hough struggled on the rain affected course through out the whole of yesterday.
The Zimbabwean, who started the final round on one-under 143, bogeyed the par four first hole to begin a miserable afternoon.

A triple bogey on the fourth hole saw Hough lose further ground to the leaders and his afternoon went on to get worse.

He finished the front nine on four-over 40 and was no longer in contention to catch the leaders.

Hough went on to score six bogeys on the back nine to compound him to the 43rd place finish at a tournament he had been at number three after the first 18 holes.

South African Teboho Sefatsa emerged from second place at the end of the second round to clinch the BMG classic ahead of compatriot Merrick Bremner.

Sefatsa carded a final score card of 10-under 206 while Bremner was just a shot behind on nine-under 207.

Yesterday’s one stroke victory was the 29-year-old’s first win on the Sunshine Tour.

“I’ve finally broken through and it feels fantastic. It hasn’t totally hit me yet, but I’m sure when I get home it will sink in. My career really takes off from here – this is where the hard work begins,” Sefatsa said.

“I’ve got to give thanks to the Big Easy Tour – I played the whole season there and it honed my game. I won the Order of Merit and it got me prepared for the second half of the season. I’m really grateful for that, and I’m chuffed that I could turn that success into a win.”

Bremner managed a final-round 69 to claim sole second at nine-under-par, while overnight leader Matthew Carvell shot a final round 71 to share third with Desvonde Botes.

But Sefatsa was paying little attention to his competitors on yesterday, focusing instead on his own game.

“I wasn’t feeling the pressure until the final hole,” he said. “I knew I had one hand on the trophy and I just needed to put the other one on it. I was ecstatic after I made that last putt,” he said.
