HARARE - Highlanders star midfielder Masimba Mambare insists he is happy at the Bulawayo giants and will only seek a move away from Barbourfields Stadium if a foreign club tables an offer.
Mambare enjoyed a brilliant 2012 season with Bosso following his move from Motor Action and was the mainstay of the club in their title fight with eventual champions Dynamos.
Bosso only lost the title on goal difference to bitter rivals DeMbare, but after six years of underachieving, many felt a runners-up finish was the best Bosso could afford.
Kelvin Kaindu’s men set a new domestic record when they went for 23 matches without defeat in the league.
Mambare was one of the club’s best players and was deservedly voted one of 11 Soccer Stars of the Year finalists.
The Bosso midfielder together Dynamos’ talisman Denver Mukamba are the favourites for the top gong at the awards gala to be held in the capital on December 13.
Mambare was also deadly in front of goal, netting a total of 11 goals in the league.
“If a foreign club comes, I take, if it does not come, I stay at Bosso where I am happy, and where I’m aiming to win the league with the team next season,” Mambare told the Daily News yesterday.
“Everything happens in football. You can be transferred tomorrow, as you can be in one or two years.
“I have heard a lot about my intended move to several clubs. Personally, I just think those are rumours.
“My focus now remains with my team Highlanders, whom I want to help in our domestic competitions.
“Leaving Bosso will not be easy. They cannot just let me go as easily as many people think they will.
“All in all, I am happy here and looking forward to continue playing for them.”
Mambare bagged Highlanders’ best player and top goal scorer awards at the club’s end-of-season dinner held last Friday, to walk away with a total purse of $6 500.
“I’m happy to be crowned the best player. I want to thank the club’s executive and fans for their support. I believe the two awards belong to the whole team,” he added.
