Flame Lilly derail Rhinos
Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:29
HARARE - Flame Lilly shocked Northern Region Division One League (NRSL) log leaders Black Rhinos 2-0 on Sunday to dent the pacesetters’ promotion hopes.

Most importantly for the prison services side, who are out of the running for the title, the victory ensured they claim bragging rights in the battle for supremacy between the uniformed forces.

Gift Phiri and Virimai Mukudo weighed in with the goals that derailed Rhinos in a match the prison services outfit dominated at Chikurubi Stadium.

The result saw Flame Lilly move into fifth place with 37 points from 22 games while Rhinos remain on top of the log with 50 points from 23 games.

The failure by Nesbert Saruchera’s men to collect points had given second-placed DStv Rangers the perfect opportunity to eat into their lead.

However, Rangers only managed to salvage a point from mid-table campaigners Scotia to take their tally to 44 points from 23 games.

Elsewhere, third-placed ZPC Kariba’s title hopes took a huge plunge after they were dismissed 1-0 by DC Academy on Sunday at Hellenics.

ZPC are still 10 points adrift of leaders Rhinos with 40 points from 23 games.

In another NRSL fixture, Skylink compounded basement side Aces Youth Academy’s woes after dispatching the Waterfalls-based outfit 2-0, their 15th defeat of what has been a very difficult season for them.

The result sees Aces still anchoring the 16-team log with 14 points from 23 matches.

RESULTS

Aces  0 v Skylink 2, Twalumba 1 v Banket 1, Eiffel Flats 1 v Blue Jets 0, JMC 1 v Mwana Afrca 1, Power Master 1 v Jumbo Jiants 1, DStv 1 v Scotia 1, Flame Lilly 2 v Black Rhinos 0, DC Academy 1 v ZPC Kariba 0.
