HARARE - Zimbabwe champions Dynamos are on the verge of securing a training stint in China ahead of next year’s Africa Champions League campaign, it emerged yesterday.

The 19 times Zimbabwe champions seemed to have strengthened their relationship with the Asian powerhouse after Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Lin Lin, made a surprise appearance as guest of honour at the club’s end-of-season awards ceremony in Harare last week.

Lin Lin was invited to officiate at the awards by Zimbabwean Cabinet minister Webster Shamu, who is the Dynamos club patron.

Now, the Dynamos management is believed to have engaged the Embassy in discussion for a possible two-week training camp in China at the end of this month or early next year, bankrolled by the Chinese.

China’s sporting ties with Zimbabwe have seen constructors from the Asian country build the National Sports Stadium in Harare while different coaching course instructors, especially in martial arts, often come to Zimbabwe to train locals.

The Glamour Boys are desperate to make an impression in next year’s Champions League so as to make up for their disastrous campaign in which they were knocked out in the second round following a first leg 6-0 routing by Tunisian giants Esperance in June.

In their bid to conquer Africa next season, DeMbare have continued with their training programme following the completion of the 2012 domestic season, in which they successfully defended their league and cup double by winning the Castle Premiership title and the Mbada Diamonds Cup for the second year running.

In China, the Harare giants are expected to take on different club sides from the country’s top flight and second tier leagues.

The China Super League has attracted many top stars, with such world class players as Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Seydou Keita, Christopher Katongo, amongst others, now plying their trade in one of the world football’s fastest growing domestic leagues.
