HARARE - Behind every successful goal scorer is a provider, who works hard to provide the assists.

Whilst Castle Premier Soccer League’s leading goal scorer Nelson Maziwisa has received glowing reviews for his exploits one man has hung in the shadows.

Gifted with a well-built physique and boundless energy to run the entire 90 minutes Tarisai Rukanda’s assists have catapulted Maziwisa to the top of the goal scoring charts and into the hearts of Shabanie faithful.

The bustling forward fits well into Shabanie Mine’s game plan which usually constitutes of the long ball from goalkeeper to Rukanda, who in turn shields ball before knocking it on into his teammate’s path.

Maziwisa has so far been the biggest benefactor netting 15 goals this season.

Yet amidst Maziwisa’s hype and his subsequent Warriors call up, Rukanda has remained humble.

The former Highlanders striker believes he is an unsung hero in the Castle Premier Soccer League.

“I think I’m quite underrated there is no doubt about that,” Rukanda told the Daily News on Sunday.

“I have never allowed Maziwisa’s hype to get to my head; I’m still juts the plain hardworking Rukanda and am happy to keep on doing this.”

Rukanda has scored two goals for the Zvishavane-based miners this season but most importantly, the Victoria Falls raised striker has been a source of goals for the Zvishavane side.

Maziviza is aware of the contribution Rukanda has made to the success of his game and to that of the team.

“He hustles, defenders and does all the dirty work. I don’t think I would have scored as many goals as I have without his help,” Maziwisa said.  “Most of the goals I have scored have been through his assists.”

Another point that has helped the duo to integrate well is that there are close friends off the pitch.
