HARARE - Top Seed Takanyi Garanganga enjoyed a convincing straight-sets win over Botswana’s Matong Phenyo to progress to the quarterfinals of the ongoing Twenty Third Centuries International Futures tournament.

The All-Africa Games gold medallist maintained his unbeaten record at the tournament by dismantling Matong 6-0, 6-0.

Garangaga will now face Lukas Marsoun of Czech Republic, who beat Italy’s Virlado 7-5, 6-2 in the second round to book his last eight berth.

“I thought I served really well today, much better than the first round,” the Zimbabwe Open champion said.

"I never play a person and say, ‘oh that was an easy opponent.' No, I have never done that. Everything takes some type of match and mental toughness."

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s Mark Fynn also posted straight sets win against South African Lloyd Segal 6-1, 6-4.

Fynn will now meet South African Keith Crowly, who outclassed Japan’s Adriano Quinti 6-1, 6-4 in the second round yesterday.
