HARARE - Zifa president Cuthbert Dube has been forced to intervene following surfacing match-fixing claims which allegedly marred the second half of the just-ended Castle Premiership season.

Rumour is rife with statements that several matches, especially involving teams battling against relegation, could have been fixed.

The Daily News can reveal that Dube this week wrote to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) executive committee, ordering the league to investigate the match-fixing claims believed to have taken form during the homestretch of the 2012 season.

It is believed clubs fingered in the scandal (names withheld) were involved in clandestine transactions as the fight against relegation intensified.  

Zifa chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze confirmed that investigations were at an advanced stage.

“We cannot mention names at the moment as this will scuttle investigations,” Mashingaidze said.

“The matter has been brought to the Zifa board and the president sent a letter to the PSL. We are expecting a response ahead of the next Zifa board meeting next week.”
