We’re still in the race: Kaindu
Tuesday, 06 November 2012 12:58
HARARE - Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu has openly revealed for the first time that he is eyeing the Castle Premiership title, dumping his season-long diplomacy in which he constantly spoke about building a team for the future.

The Zambian has kept his ambitions a closely guided secret, with “I am building a championship team for next season” being his consistent declaration for the greater part of the season.

However, Kaindu’s remarks may have come too little too late considering that Highlanders trail defending champions and log leaders Dynamos by two points with only two matches left before the season ends.

But Kaindu, a devout Christian, says title race will go down to the wire.

Highlanders dismissed relegation threatened Hardbody 2- 0 at Ascot Stadium on Sunday to move to 63 points from 28 matches while DeMbare came back from a goal down to beat Monomotapa 2-1 at Rufaro on the same day to take their points tally to 65.

“It wasn’t an easy game, a bit difficult and tricky but we did well to score early in the first half before the sudden slump in form in the second period,” Kaindu told the Daily News yesterday.

“As it is now, only two teams are still in the hunt to be crowned champions, I believe that it will go on until the last game and until the final whistle.

“We will focus on our own game and pray that we have our hands on the championship and Dynamos will be hoping to do the same but at the end the will of God will prevail.”

Kaindu’s sentiments were echoed by his opposite number, Dynamos coach Calisto Pasuwa.

“It’s game on; we still have to collect maximum points until the end of the season,” Pasuwa said after the Monomotapa match.
