Chilembe keen on CAPS return
Thursday, 29 November 2012 10:46
HARARE - Former CAPS United captain Laughter Chilembe has spoken of his desire to return to his former club and help change the Green Machine’s fortunes next season.

The Zambian defender arrived in the country yesterday for an indaba with the CAPS management and paid a courtesy call at the Daily News offices.

Chilembe was a member of Charles Mhlauri’s all-conquering team which won back-to-back Zimbabwean titles in 2005 and 2006.

"I made a name for myself while playing for CAPS United and after seeing how bad the club struggled I believe I have a lot to offer to the club. My contract at my Zambian club (National Assembly) has expired so I’m keen to join my boyhood club.”

Chilembe, a solid defender in his prime, is adamant that at 34 he still has what it takes to help transform the ailing Harare giants into a force to reckon with again.

“I don’t doubt my capability, after all team work is the hall mark to success. I am eager to come back. Hopefully something can be done,” he said.

Chilembe also congratulated record Zimbabwe champions Dynamos for successfully defending their league and cup double.

The Zambian is already relishing reviving the rivalry with CAPS’ city rivals.

“Well done to Dynamos, the past two seasons clearly belonged to them,” he said.

“The biggest thing I miss is the derby. There are two great teams in Harare and when I watch the derby it gives me the zeal to bring back the glory days at CAPS United.”

During his days at CAPS United, Chilembe was a rock solid defender who rose through the ranks to become the club captain.

If the two parties reach an agreement, the former Power Dynamos stopper says he will help cultivate a winning mentality at Makepekepe.

“The current Makepekepe players lack determination so I want to encourage the youngsters to work harder and take the club back to the Cup Kings era.” -
