Murape eyes continental success

HARARE - Veteran Dynamos midfielder Murape Murape says he wants to end his playing days with an African Champions League medal, saying a continental title is the only missing achievement in his glittering club football career.

With four domestic league titles to his name with DeMbare, the diminutive but hardworking midfielder, who has been overlooked by different national team coaches and never represented his country at full international level, is in the twilight of his playing career.

The 33-year-old has hinted on hanging his boots next year, admitting that his failure to win national teams caps is one of his biggest regrets.

“Of course, like any other player I would have loved to play for the Warriors,” Murape told the Daily News yesterday.

“The snub, however, doesn’t worry me much because having achieved all those titles with Dynamos is an achievement which can only be equalled by a few people.

Playing for Dynamos and winning titles like I did, on its own, can rival wearing the Warriors jersey.”
At 33, Murape becomes the oldest player at Dynamos following the omission of fellow midfielder Desmond Maringwa from the club’s 2013 squad.

The last two seasons have been the most fruitful for Murape, helping the Glamour Boys to back-to-back league and cup double success.

Having won pretty much everything domestically, Murape has revealed a burning desire to conquer Africa.

“I’m really privileged to have been part of the team, my greatest desire now is to win the Champions League, we have been in the final before and I’m aware of what is required to succeed at that level.”
