Africa's sports ministers meet
Friday, 09 November 2012 11:42
BRAZZAVILLE - Ministers of sport in Africa meet in Brazzaville, Congo, to consider recommendations to reconfigure the management of sport on the continent including the organisation of the All-Africa Games.

The ministers will meet in an extraordinary general assembly of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) today.

The SCSA, formed in 1966, is an independent Pan-African sport body whose mandate includes coordinating the organisation of the All-Africa Games and has its secretariat based in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Previous decisions of the assembly recommended the realignment of SCSA functions with the African Union Commission under the Commission for Social Affairs.

Congo is the host of the 11th All-Africa Games in 2015, which coincides with the golden jubilee of the Games. Ironically, Brazzaville hosted the first edition in 1965.

With many challenges on the doorsteps of the African Union (AU), it remains to be seen if the decision of the ministers will be of benefit to sports development in Africa. -
