HARARE - Gunners have been relegated from Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League three years after winning the league title.

The Harare club were demoted yesterday despite beating Chicken Inn in their last match of the season.

Interestingly, it was under Moses Chunga that Gunners won the championship back in 2009.

The former Zimbabwe international was in his third spell as Gunners coach.

Ishmael Lawe grabbed a brace for Chando Kupisa, but Black Mambas’ shock 4-2 win over FC Platinum condemned Chunga’s men to the murky waters of relegation.

With that win, Mambas survived the chop.

Gunners scored their first goal four minutes before the break after Lawe headed home a Tapiwa Dephstra cross.

Despite dominating the game, Gunners’ chief striker Lawe only completed his brace three minutes before regulation time after Chicken Inn goalkeeper Liberty Chireva failed to clear Moses Muchenje’s free kick to leave Lawe with an easy task.

Just after the goal, Lawe received a red card for leaving the field to celebrate his second goal with Gunners supporters.

The former champions have now joined Blue Rangers, Hardbody  and Quelaton, who have been relegated.
