Ecobank lifts Bankers League knockout trophy
Tuesday, 30 October 2012 16:06
HARARE - Ecobank are this year’s Bankers Soccer League (BSL) knock out tournament champions after they edged a battling CBZ team 1-0 over the weekend.

The final match started at a fast pace with CBZ dictating the pace.

Ecobank took the lead through a Taurai Madhiri beauty in the 25th minute.

Thomas Nyadundu of CBZ had brought down the league’s top goal scorer Tichakunda Chitsinde at the edge of the box with Madhiri taking the resultant free-kick.

Ecobank defended for dear life in the second half leading to their first knock out cup under auspices of Bankers Soccer League.

NMB settled for third place after beating Kingdom 4-3 on penalty shoot-outs.

The tournament concludes this year’s BSL activities.

League secretary Lameck Chinzara was pleased with the way the BSL as well as the end of year knock out tournament have evolved.

Chinzara said: “Next year’s kick off will be in March 2013 after the AGM. We applaud individual team sponsors for their support.” - Sport Writer
