HARARE - A Zvishavane Bulls player died on Friday when the car he was travelling was involved in a accident along the Gweru-Shurugwi road on his way to a Lion National Rugby League match.

Zvishavane Bulls flyhalf Slimfield Moyo died shortly after the accident upon arrival at Shurugwi Government Hospital whilst his three teammates Masimba Muzenda, Lewis Kuchineyi and Tonderai Bvumbe escaped with injuries.

The four players were travelling back to Zvishavane from Harare when the accident occurred around 3pm Friday afternoon, some 10 kilometres outside Shurugwi.

They were scheduled to feature in a league match against Old Miltonians yesterday afternoon.

The match was cancelled due to tragic accident.

Zvishavane Bulls team manager, Darlington Majoni confirmed the tragic news yesterday.

He said: “The car rolled over and Slim was thrown out of the window. The car then rolled over on top of him. The other players spent some 30 minutes trying to locate him until it was established that he had been buried under the car but at that stage he was still breathing. Unfortunately he died as they reached the hospital.”

Burial arrangements for the former Airforce and Gweru Sports Club flyhalf were not available at the time of going to print last night.

Meanwhile, Old Hararians put up a staler show, thrashing Gweru Sports Club 81-5 in a one sided affair at Old Hararians yesterday.

Gweru Spots Club were found wanting in all departments and failed to do the basics right.

Their tackling was very appalling and their handling left a lot be desired.

On the other hand, OH were much composed and put up a clinical display.

The Green Machine started like a house on fire with their skipper Tichafara Makwanya scoring two tries within the first 15 minutes which he both converted.

Gweru managed to weather the storm a bit replying with a try through lock Edison Muchenje which was not converted.

OH found their rhythm again towards the end of the first half as Costa Dinha, Danai Tobayiwa  and Samson Makuku all ran in a try a piece.

Makwanya weighed in with a penalty right at the stroke of half time as they went to the break with a 31-5 lead.

In the second period it was one way traffic as Makwanya added two tries to his tally.

Full back Tshuma, Antipas Kamwindo and Chris Tutani all managed to get their names on the score sheet.

Makuku completed his brace in the second half.

The match between Old Georgians and Western Panthers at Harare Sports Club was abandoned over crowd trouble with 10 minutes to go with OGs leading 65-0. -
