HARARE - Ordinarily, a mere point should not spark too much celebration, but CAPS United coach Taurai Mangwiro believes last weekend’s goalless draw with Buffaloes could kick-start a revival at the fallen Harare giants.

Until Sunday’s draw away to the Mutare soldiers, United had gone on a seven-game losing streak, conceding 13 goals in a very difficult period for the four-time Zimbabwe champions.
 
Though CAPS failed to collect all the points in Mutare, Mangwiro hailed his team’s ability to salvage something from a reputed difficult hunting ground.

“Sakubva is not the easiest of places to visit, but we fought hard and came away with a deserved point,” Mangwiro told the Daily News yesterday.

“At least we now have some starting point. Hopefully, we will remain focussed and get a positive result against Hardbody in our next game.”

The CAPS defence, which had conceded 23 goals in 19 games before the Sakubva trip, earned plaudits from Mangwiro for the grit they showed against Buffaloes.

“We had been conceding a lot of goals this season so the fact that the defence was able to keep a clean sheet in a difficult away match is a cause for optimism,” he said.

“Teams that defend well have greater chances of winning games, and I am sure from now on, we will keep it tight at the back and avoid conceding goals cheaply.”

Makepekepe’s lack of potency in front of goal, however, still worries Mangwiro.

Added the former Monomotapa coach: “We need to do more in terms of our finishing because in Mutare we still couldn’t score. We are hopeful that goals will soon come. Scorers thrive on confidence so, hopefully, they will score in our next game. But in the end, it doesn’t matter who scores. Whether the scorer is a defender or midfielder is of little significance in the end. What matters is the scoring.”
