HARARE - Tunisian side Club Athletic Bizertin will arrive in Harare tomorrow high on confidence for Sunday’s African Champions League first round second leg qualifier against Dynamos.

Bizertin, who are currently third in the Tunisian top-flight, are expected to jet into the country tomorrow at 5:10pm.

The Dolphins have a healthy 3-0 lead from the first leg played three weeks ago in Bizerte and will start Sunday’s game at Rufaro Stadium as favourites to progress to the final qualifying round.

DeMbare had done well to hold the Tunisian team to a 0-0 scoreline at halftime but the Zimbabwean champions crumbled inside the opening minutes of the second half, conceding three goals from set pieces.

Since that match on March 17, Bizertin have played three matches in the Tunisian Premiership and have won two while drawing the other one.

What makes the Dolphins current form staggering is that all those three matches have been away from their fortress at the October 15 Stadium in Bizerte.

After beating DeMbare, Bizertin followed up that victory with a 0-2 away win over Marsa.

Perhaps the big statement of intent shown by Bizertin was when they travelled to Souse at the end of March and defeated log leaders Etoile du Sahel 0-1.

Etoile are a formidable team at home, but Mondher Kbaier’s team showed them little respect and walked away with all three points.

Last weekend, Bizertin travelled to Zarzis and emerged with a 1-1 draw before they embark on their journey to Harare.

These three last results have seen Bizertin rise to third on the Tunisian PSL log just five points behind Etoile.

Bizertin can cut that lead to two points as they enjoy a game in hand after their match against Olympique du Kef failed to take place last month.

That match will now take place next Thursday when Bizertin return to Tunisia after their clash with DeMbare.

Judging by recent form, the Dolphins are a team clearly enjoying their football under Kbaier, who was only appointed four days before the first leg clash against Dynamos.

The fact that they have travelled three times in a row in their domestic league and are picking up points should be a worrying factor for Dynamos.

Even with a 3-0 cushion, Bizertin will not come to Harare and simply park the bus.

Their opponents, DeMbare, have not had the best of starts to the season.  

In five competitive matches, The Glamour Boys have won once, beating Lesotho Correctional Services 3-0 at Rufaro Stadium back in February in the Champions League.

The Harare giants would then go on to lose the return leg in Maseru 1-0 but progressed to the next round 3-1 on aggregate.

Many thought that result was just a minor bleep since complacency might have crept into the players’ minds owing to the first leg victory.

Dynamos then lost heavily their next match to Bizertin before beginning the defence of their domestic title with consecutive one all draws against Black Mambas and Chicken Inn.

Now with Bizertin lurking on the horizon, DeMbare’s misery might continue as they are likely to be dumped out of the Champions League by the Tunisian side.
