HARARE - Dynamos this week wrote to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) expressing concern over the use of Bulawayo’s Barbourfields Stadium for their Mbada Diamonds Cup semifinal clash with CAPS United tomorrow.

The title holders finally agreed to play in the city after receiving a security guarantee from the league chiefs.

“The choice of venue of was a concern we brought up with the PSL,” Dynamos secretary-general Raymond Kazembe told the Daily News yesterday.

“We attach supreme importance to the safety of our players and fans, so we wanted the PSL management to guarantee us that. We only agreed to play there after they said we would be safe.”

Although the Sunday match pits the two Harare rivals, tension has been mounting between Dynamos and Highlanders fans in the build-up to the match, with the latter expected to rally behind CAPS.

There has been bad blood between Dynamos and Highlanders fans over the years, which has been worsened by the tension-filled title race between the two clubs.

Unconfirmed reports claim a Dynamos fan died after being assaulted by Highlanders fans during the Bulawayo giants’ 2-0 win over Hardbody in Gweru last weekend.

“Considering where the league title race is now, there is tension between Dynamos and Highlanders fans,” Kazembe added.

“There is always tension when you mix fans, but that is expected, you cannot blame the fans. The league chiefs have to put measures in place.”

PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele was this week quoted allaying security fears on the part of Dynamos.
